Greetings from Chairs (Prof. Yong Sik Ok & Prof. Jay Hyuk Rhee)

We are pleased to invite you to the 8th Asia Pacific Biochar Conference & 10th Korea Biochar Research Center International BIOCHAR Conference, which will be held from October 13 to 15, 2026, in Seoul, Korea, at the heart of Gangnam. The Korea Biochar Research Center (KBRC) will host this conference with International ESG Association (IESGA). Notably, this will be the 10th time that KBRC has hosted this prestigious event, adding even greater significance to the occasion.
Biochar is increasingly recognized for its potential to enhance soil fertility and quality, remove environmental contaminants, and sequester carbon. Recent research in biochar has also spurred interest in its applications across various fields, including engineering, healthcare, and life sciences. These advancements have significantly expanded biochar’s commercial potential. The APBC series aims to bring together academia and industry to exchange knowledge, showcase innovations, and celebrate achievements.
The APBC series was first launched in 2009 in Gold Coast, Australia, and has since been held in Kyoto, Japan (2011); Chuncheon, Korea (2016); Foshan, China (2018); Hung Hom, Hong Kong (2021); and Shenyang, China (2024), representing major countries in the Asia-Pacific region. In 2011, the 2nd Asia Pacific Biochar Conference was led by Prof. Stephen Joseph from the University of New South Wales, Australia, and Prof. Makoto Ogawa from the Osaka Institute of Technology, Japan. The 3rd conference in 2016 was chaired by Prof. Yong Sik Ok from Korea University, Korea, alongside other esteemed researchers. The 4th~7th APBCs were co-chaired by prominent scholars from across the region.
The 8th APBC & 10th KBRC International BIOCHAR Conference will be held with a focus on the next generation of biochar, with particular emphasis on its role in achieving global carbon neutrality, and integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations. This conference will highlight novel biochar applications and offer a unique platform for the international scientific community, policymakers, and industry professionals to share insights and ideas. We would be delighted to have you join us at this significant event in Seoul to share your scientific perspectives and contribute to the advancement of biochar research and application.
